Marlow Town Council held its exciting new event on Sunday 24th September. (See some photographs below). The Winter Lake Suite at the Crowne Plaza was transformed into a colourful theme of celebration. Guests were invited from all parts of Marlow society; senior citizens, veterans, schools, cadets, and volunteers covering a wide range of activities that are held in the town. Sir Henry-Aubrey Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant of Bucks and Lady Sarah Aubrey-Fletcher were also present to join in thanking our guests.
Guests were welcomed to the lunch by Great Marlow Jazz Band playing a medley of tunes. This was followed by a short film with clips from Sir Steve Redgrave, paralympian Naomi Richards and actor Tom Chambers, and some magical comments from Sandygate school children saying what they loved about Marlow. The short film also included some vintage footage of Marlow Regatta which caused much hilarity as health and safety would never allow such activities today!
Between courses, Borlase Gospel Choir entertained the guests with some great upbeat numbers.
The winning table of the “name that year” of three pictures that were included on the Table Talker, were presented with small bottles of Prosecco.
Mayor Jocelyn Towns said, “It is humbling to be able to honour so many groups and individuals who give up their time and energy for the community. She thanked Great Marlow Jazz Band and Borlase Gospel Choir for their entertaining contribution to the event.” She closed by saying “as we reflect on our pride in the past, our passion for the present and our faith in the future, we Celebrate Marlow.”
