Marlow Town Council’s new event in the annual calendar was held for the first time on Sunday 24th September in the Winter Lake Suite at the Crowne Plaza. The room was transformed with a colourful theme of celebration for the event and guests were invited from all parts of Marlow society: senior citizens, veterans, schools, cadets and volunteers who participate in the wide range of activities that are held in the town.
Guests were welcomed to the lunch by Great Marlow Jazz Band playing a medley of tunes. This was followed by a short film with clips from Sir Steve Redgrave, Paralympian Naomi Richards and actor Tom Chambers. There were some magical comments from Sandygate school children, saying what they loved about Marlow. The short film also included some vintage footage of Marlow Regatta, which caused much hilarity as health and safety would never allow such activities today! We were delighted to find out that
Mrs Meg Saint, one of our guests, was actually featured in the archive footage!
Between courses, Borlase Gospel Choir entertained the guests with some great upbeat numbers. Sir Henry-Aubrey Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant of Bucks and Lady Sarah Aubrey-Fletcher were present to join in thanking the guests.
The winning table of the “Name that Year” competition, to guess the year of three pictures that were included on the Table Talker, were presented with small bottles of Prosecco.
Mayor Jocelyn Towns said: “It is humbling to be able to honour so many groups and individuals who give up their time and energy for the community. As we reflect on our pride in the past, our passion for the present and our faith in the future, we Celebrate Marlow.”
This brand new invitation event will be taking place on September 24th, Sunday lunch at the Crowne Plaza, thanking our Community.
We are combining three of our events, Senior Citizens Lunch, Veterans Lunch and our Regatta reception along with those who volunteer in the community. If you would like to nominate someone who volunteers in the Marlow Community please email firstname.lastname@example.org
